Student Profile

Of course each young man, who enrolls at Atlantis Leadership Academy, comes from their own unique family, life story, set of challenges, and so on.

Though as diverse as our student body is, there can be some common ground and similarities, as well. The main driver for providing these quick highlights, or “snap shots” is to  explore if any of them are applicable to your family and/or your son; though these are not meant as enrollment criteria.

Roughly 65% of the students we work with are from a family that is currently going through a Divorce, heading for Divorce, or is already living within a blended family.

It is a common myth that all kids who enroll into a Boarding Academy are “druggies.”

Many kids have not experimented with anything whatsoever, yet are failing everything in School and battling their family. And on the flip side, you have many students who are still on Honor Roll and are rarely sober prior to enrollment.

Abuse

On occasion it does happen that a young man is enrolled into a Boarding School, Military School, or something of the like and things do not work out as planned.

Whether it be a violation of that School's policy, or the student just needs a fresh start, we are always open to explore if we are a next best suit.

“Change is the law of life. And those who look only to the past or present are certain to miss the future.”

- John F. Kennedy

Depending on the time of the School year, 60-75% of the students will enroll failing School, on their way to failing, or have been recently expelled.

We are seeing more and more families that have attempted “alternative” Home School prior to enrollment.

Not to be mistaken for traditional Home Schooling.

A pretty common denominator with our students is that many grew up with a good, close group of friends and active in some Sport(s).

Both usually are sacrificed on a young man spirals downhill. This is quickly revitalized as soon as they arrive.

Positive peer culture, healthy diet, good weather and an active lifestyle are key elements.

ALA is an ideal chance to ditch those components in life that are dragging down a young man's self-confidence, self-esteem and poor self-image.

Through daily accomplishments, consistent growth and forging new healthy relationships with family, friends and Staff, quickly these issues turn from a liability to a source of strength.

We respect that this can be a serious life hurdle for many. Atlantis has been a great source of empowerment to many adopted young men.

We believe there is no healthy processing of grief without the acknowledgment of loss.

We provide many Therapies, as well as educating the student body as a whole.

Many of our students have been DX with something prior to enrollment…
ADD, ADHD, RAD, etc.

Many times this is a symptom of trying to find help/answers prior to placement just as often as it may be a legitimate DX.

Through an active lifestyle, Island setting, patient and flexible Staff & mentoring, our students finally have the chance to slow down and think properly and thrive.

More often than not, Boarding Academies will not accept young men who are within 3-5 months of  being 18 years old.

We are open to reviewing young men  that are close to 18, or have already turned 18 (student volunteer).

We have found that the ingredients of our Academy support young men very well in this transition of their lives.
